- Starr Revolvers -

The Starr revolver (Starr DA) is a double-action revolver which was used in the western theater of the American Civil War until the U.S. Ordnance Department persuaded the Starr Arms Co. to create a single-action variant after discontinuation of the Colt.

This informative video with Ian McCollum explains the history of the Starr Company.

The company eventually complied to the single action request and the Union acquired 25,000 of the single-action revolvers for $12 each (equivalent to 231 in 2014 inflation dollars).
Manufactured between 1863 and 1865, approximately 32,000 Model 1863 single action revolvers were manufactured by Starr with 25,000 purchased by the U.S. Government. The remainder were commercial sales, and this example being a civilian specimen.
